The Big Story šŸ“°

Whipnotic, a New York-based startup thatā€™s bringing innovation to the long-dormant whipped cream category, secured $2.5M in seed funding. Participants in the funding round include GTM Investments, East Dune Holdings, and Crenshaw Ventures.

Founded by sisters Tracy Luckow and Lori Gitomer, Whipnotic differentiates from Reddi-Wip and other private-label players via its technology. At first, this might be difficult to compute ā€” why are ā€œtechnologyā€ and ā€œwhipped creamā€ being used in the same breath ā€” but Whipnotic owns an interesting bit of proprietary technology that infuses whipped cream with fruit juices and flavors as itā€™s being expelled. The result is a much more flavorful and novel experience for consumers.

Since hitting the market in July of 2022, Whipnotic has been busy building its retail presence. In addition to their east coast presence at Balducciā€™s, Citarella, DeCicco Family Markets, and Kings, Whipnotic has been pushing westward with launches at Central Market, Harmons, The Fresh Market, and many other regional outlets.

Per their CEO, Lori Gitomer, the majority of the seed funding will be used to expand their retail presence, launch into the food service channel, and increase brand awareness.

Iā€™m pretty bullish on Whipnotic. Theyā€™re focused on a large, sleepy category ā€” itā€™s expected to be a $10.3B category by 2025 ā€” and theyā€™ve clearly differentiated from legacy players like Reddi-Wip by focusing on unique flavors, bright, compelling packaging, and a proprietary delivery system.
