This Week in CPG - Deals Are Flowin'

Happy Saturday, folks. There's no Big Story this morning but you can expect one on Wednesday. There's a lot to cover, including a good amount of M&A, so let's dive in... 

Deals

  • Cariuma, an ethical DTC sneaker brand based in Singapore, raised $16.5m in funding led by East Ventures. Madrone Capital Partners, Innova Capital, and Shanghai Capital Fund also invested. Link

  • New York-based gourmet cookie chain Chip City Cookies raised $10m from Enlightened Hospitality Investments (EHI), Danny Meyer's growth equity fund. Chip City has 14 locations and will use the funding for multi-state expansion. Link

  • Olistic, a Barcelona-based wellness startup focused on hair loss, closed on $6m led by IRIS Ventures. Link

  • Black-owned haircare brand Alodia raised $2m from New Voices Fund. Alodia was founded in 2017 and launched in Target earlier this year. Link

  • Premium pet lifestyle brand VETRESKA raised $50m for its new pet food division which will be spun off. VETRESKA has some beautiful products, curious to see how their food line looks. Link

  • Coffee giant Starbucks sold Seattle's Best Coffee to a fellow coffee giant, Nestle. Starbucks acquired Seattle's Best in 2003 for $72m. Link

  • NX Fund, an early stage investor in Chinese consumer brands like SATURNBIRD and Sweet7, closed on its latest fund. No details on fund size at the moment. Link

  • French wine & spirits firm GCF Group acquired South African winery Neethlingshof Estate. Link

  • Dry River Wines, a New Zealand wine estate owned by the late Julian Robertson, was sold to a Kiwi businessman, Charlie Zheng. Link

  • Unilever led an investment in YOUVIT, Indonesia's #1 gummy vitamin brand. British American Tobacco (BAT) also invested. Link

  • Authentic Brands Group (ABG) completed its $200m+ acquisition of Ted Baker. Link

  • Celebrity Chrissy Teigen launched a new line of baking mixes under her Cravings brand. The three SKUs look great. Link

  • French spirits firm Remy Cointreau unveiled a new fragrance house in conjunction with Firmenich, Maison Pysche. Link

  • New intimate women's skincare brand, Ina. The company was founded by OB-GYN Dr. Beri Ridgeway and Susan Goldsberry, a well-known cosmetic chemist. Link

  • A new deodorant brand from Los Angeles that targets specific use cases e.g. working out or an important meeting, nez. Link

  • Remedy, the Aussie beverage brand known for their kombuchas and prebiotic sodas, launched a new line of natural energy drinks. Link

  • Danish fashion label Ganni launched its first beauty line with the help of Submission, a zero-plastic beauty brand based in LA. Link

  • The team behind Essentia Water, Ken Uptain & Scott Miller, will bring an enhanced water brand to market next year, Yesly. It's almost positioned like an energy brand which is an interesting play for a water company. Link 

  • New slave-free chocolate brand from Scotland, UP-UP Chocolate. Awesome branding. Link

  • Iconic candy brand Airheads unveiled a novel product, Airheads-flavored dental floss. Link

  • Ottawa's City Seltzer launched a new flavor, Sour Grapes. Love their branding. Link 

Distribution Quickfire 

  • Grove Collaborative launched its plastic-free home care line at H-E-B and Harris Teeter.

  • Organic wellness shot brand Vive launched nationwide at Kroger.

  • Zero sugar lemonade brand Swoon rolled out at The Fresh Market.

  • Fillo's, a producer of ready-to-eat Latin foods, now available nationwide at Walmart.

  • Brainiac Foods will launch their snacks and a new line of supplements at CVS.

  • Tepache brand De La Calle launched at Kroger in Houston & Dallas.
