The Big Story 📰
SuperOrdinary, a growth partner that’s best known for helping Western beauty brands break into the Chinese market, closed a $58M round at an impressive $800M valuation. Participants in the round include Manzanita Capital, Alliance Consumer Growth, Upper90, and Spanish beauty firm Puig.
Though started solely as a global growth partner for brands like Biossance, Farmacy, and Olaplex, SuperOrdinary now offers Amazon seller management services, creator partnerships, and even incubates their own beauty brands.
After a series of acquisitions, SuperOrdinary has been growing fast. Over the past year revenue has grown 30% year-over-year, and next year the company expects revenue to surge 50% to $350M.
This is largely driven by their creator arm which has grown 12x since acquiring Fanfix in 2022. In addition to Fanfix — a service similar to Patreon that helps creators monetize their audiences via subscriptions — SuperOrdinary also connects brands and creators via their marketplace. Per the company, 92% of consumers trust creator recommendations versus digital ads or celebrity endorsements, and they’re very good at matching brands and creators.
SuperOrdinary has hit a number of other milestones lately, too. Last year they made their first brand acquisition in celebrity skincare brand, Joanna Vargas, and in 2021 they incubated and launched their first cosmetics brand, Lula.
