Mergers & Acquisitions
Chobani continues to evolve into a better-for-you food & beverage platform. On Friday, the yogurt maker announced that it was acquiring Daily Harvest, a purveyor of organic smoothies, snacks, meals, and supplements. Daily Harvest was founded in 2015 by Rachel Drori and raised nearly $190M in funding. The company’s valuation exceeded $1B only a few years ago, but by most accounts this was a distressed sale. The acquisition offers Chobani greater exposure to a number of new categories like frozen smoothies and ready-to-heat meals. Modern Retail
Chocolate Works, a manufacturer of branded and private label chocolate products, announced the acquisition of Thompson Chocolate, a Connecticut-based producer of chocolate novelties. The acquisition significantly expands the co-manufacturing capabilities of Chocolate Works. Food Business News
Fundraising
Cleveland Kitchen, a producer of high-quality fermented foods, secured $2.9M in fresh equity funding from undisclosed investors. Previous investors in Cleveland Kitchen include Amberstone and Clover Vitality. In 2022, the company raised $19M in order to acquire Sonoma Brinery, a California-based pickle and kraut manufacturer. Youth to the People is launching its first-ever sunscreen product on May 18th. Youthscreen SPF 60 Daily Hydration + Pollution Defense Fluid will retail for $30 at Sephora. L’Oreal acquired Youth to the People in late 2021. PR Newswire
Glow Recipe is launching a new lip balm line inspired by Bingsoo, a Korean shaved ice dessert. The new product will come in four shades and hit shelves at Sephora soon. WWD
Omani luxury fragrance brand Amouage released two new scents: Existence and Decision. The new fragrances are available at Amouage boutiques and at select retail partners. Instagram

JuneShine and BelliWelli joined forces to launch a new kombucha flavor — Strawberry Dragon Fruit. The good-looking collab is available now at over 400 Target stores. In a sea of banal collabs, this is a fun one. Instagram
Blender-free smoothie brand Kencko is expanding into snacks with their new Fruit Snaps line. Fruit Snaps are crunchy, bite-sized snack sticks that are made with 100% organic fruit. Three flavors are available — Mango, Strawberry, and Raspberry — which you can find online and at Walmart. Food Navigator
Forager Project, an organic, dairy-free creamery, just launched a Greek Style Yogurt line. Each serving contains 10g of protein, six gut-friendly cultures, and no added sugar. Dairy Foods Magazine
Elizabeth Stephenson has been named the CEO of SYSTM Foods. Prior to joining SYSTM Foods, Stephenson was the CEO of Intelligent Brands and an exec at The Wonderful Company. SYSTM is a modern beverage platform and the owner of REBBL, Chameleon Organic Coffee, and Humm Kombucha. PR Newswire

The owner of Nature’s Own and Dave’s Killer Bread also closed its $795M acquisition of Simple Mills as it focuses more on snacks instead of packaged baked goods.
